Why settle for boring, posed family portraits when there are unlimited creative possibilities?
Becky’s family are dear clients of ours and we have had the honor of watching their family grow over the years through their creative family photos. Every year, this adorable family surprises us with a great, new idea! Lighting elements were incorporated this year to create some unique outdoor fairy light photos to share with their friends and family. How cool is that!
As photographers, we are always talking about the golden hour and how important it is to have adequate lighting when scheduling family photos. That is our ideal situation. But we can actually take creative family photos at night or indoors and still provide wall-worthy prints! The main thing to remember is making sure there is enough ambient light to avoid accidental grainy and blurry photos. Turn on your porch lights and string up some outdoor fairy lights and we are good to go!
This magical fairy garden came to life in their Boulder, CO backyard by adding a simple stand of round lights. We started off by lighting their yard walkway with the outdoor fairy lights. Their two girls, Astrid and Adwin, sat on the ground and surrounded themselves with the bulbs.
Shortly after that, Astrid became a little restless and started climbing the tree in their backyard and we had a great new idea. Why not string the lights through the tree! We draped the fairy lights in the tree branches right next to the girls to make sure there was enough light to illuminate their faces. They looked like cute little fairies hiding in the tree!
The family is always photo ready and willing to get creative for their family photos. Plus, Astrid and Adwin are always so full of energy and joy, making our jobs a breeze. The outdoor fairy light photos showed off their quirky and big-grinned personalities perfectly!
Also dressed to impress, the family coordinated outfits with a dark blue theme. The darker clothing worked well with the night sky for their outdoor fairy light photos. For more outfit inspiration for your next family photo, take a look at What to Wear for Family Photos.
We can’t wait to see what imaginative family photo idea this fun family will come up with next!
