Red, yellow, and orange leaves, oh my! Take a moment and picture the perfect Rocky Mountain National Park fall engagement photo session. We dream of towering trees, serene lakes, climbable boulders, lush fields, and breathtaking peaks in the distance. And we were lucky enough to capture that plus more during Amy and Matt’s engagement photos!
Matt was about to be deployed, so Amy wanted to make sure they captured some sweet engagement photos of the two of them before he left. We started our journey to the mountains late in the afternoon the first week of October hoping for peak foliage. Amy and Matt chose Bear Lake as their ideal Rocky Mountain National Park fall engagement photo backdrop and it couldn’t have been more perfect!
The aspen trees were in full autumn leaf color! These white-barked trees rose above us creating a foliage-packed backdrop. If you ever need a reason to visit the Rocky Mountains in the fall, this is it! These bright reds and yellows don’t last long and are entirely dependent on the weather.
We loved using the calm Bear Lake as a giant mirror and played with reflections. By standing a little farther away from Amy and Matt than with a typical portrait, we were able to capture the full scale of the landscape’s beauty, while still showing off how cute these two looked!
Amy and Matt are a fun, adventurous couple and we loved exploring the park with them. We timed their engagement photo session perfectly so we caught a dramatic, stormy sunset as we were leaving. These two were excited to climb the rocks so we had a chance to photograph their silhouettes against the epic sunset. And wow, was it worth it!
They also brought along a super cute Save the Date banner. We are positive that it will make their Save the Date cards even better! Plus, they even coordinated their outfits! One clothing theme was shades of red, while the other was a more subdued purple and gray palette. Both outfits complimented the surrounding fall foliage without blending in too much. The Rocky Mountains are incredible at all times, but they are especially magical during the fall when the foliage is bright and colorful. Start planning next year’s trip early so you don’t miss out! Thank you again to Amy and Matt for being so adventurous during this stunning Rocky Mountain National Park fall engagement photo session at Bear Lake!
Frequently Asked Questions
When should we schedule our engagement photos?
We recommend scheduling 2-3 months before your wedding. This allows time for proofs and prints, and engagement photos can be used for wedding stationery.
How long do engagement sessions take?
Most sessions run 1-2 hours, giving us time to capture images at multiple locations and in different lighting.
What should we wear?
Choose outfits that reflect your style and feel comfortable. We recommend coordinating colors rather than matching exactly. Layers work well for outdoor Denver sessions.
Can we use engagement photos for announcements?
Absolutely! Many couples use their engagement photos for save-the-dates, wedding websites, and social media announcements.
What if the weather isn’t perfect?
Colorado’s weather can be unpredictable. We’ll work with you to reschedule if needed, or we can embrace the elements for unique, moody shots.
