Beaver Creek: Colorado’s Premier Luxury Mountain Wedding Destination
Beaver Creek, nestled in the Vail Valley at over 8,000 feet elevation, represents the pinnacle of Colorado luxury wedding venues. This world-class ski resort transforms into an elegant summer wedding destination, offering couples a setting that feels both exclusive and authentically alpine. For photographers, the elevation and mountain landscape create opportunities you simply can’t replicate in the Denver metro area — every shot includes the dramatic peaks and pristine natural beauty that define the Colorado high country.
What makes Beaver Creek extraordinary is the convergence of resort amenities, stunning natural scenery, and thoughtful venue design. The venue provides elegant ceremony and reception spaces with mountain views that serve as natural backdrops for photography. Whether you’re capturing early morning preparation with peak views framed through lodge windows or golden hour portraits against the alpine landscape, Beaver Creek’s elevation and setting create a sense of occasion and luxury that photographs beautifully.
If you thought there was nothing more precious than Alana and Erick’s engagement pictures along Clear Creek in Golden, Colorado…think again. We had the privilege of photographing their December Beaver Creek wedding day in the middle of the stunning snowcapped Rocky Mountains! The duo looked extremely elegant and their venue only complimented their aesthetic! The holiday season is fun for many reasons, but spending the day in a rustic, festively decorated, wooden lodge surrounded by loved ones (and with a few feet of snow outside) while celebrating your wedding is something truly special.
Not only was their SaddleRidge wedding venue in Beaver Creek beautiful, but Alana and Erick also embraced the DIY spirit by picking out candles, gorgeous flowers, perfect table toppers, plate settings, and “welcome” signs to add even more warmth to the lovely location. The stacked suitcases, vintage globes, and golden compasses gave off a very worldly vibe (a nod to the years they had just shared abroad before moving back home). Elsewhere, the warm colors of the flowers, glowing candles, and soft lighting produced an ambiance that made everyone feel at home. During the ceremony, candles illuminated a pathway down the aisle for the couple. We noticed that a few deer even had their eyes on the bride and groom!
Alana and Erick were willing to venture up one of the many ski slopes Beaver Creek has to offer for some once in a lifetime photos! They looked like classic Hollywood stars, surrounded by snow-kissed pines in their winter wonderland. Plus, the shades of red in Alana’s bouquet and the red from Erick’s scarf gave the pictures a nice little pop. These two proved to us that a Beaver Creek wedding in winter is absolutely perfect, and there is really nothing more amazing than dancing on a mountaintop in the middle of winter, while in gorgeous attire.
Queen Elsa from Frozen has nothing on Alana! Her champagne colored dress with a beaded belt, paired with a fur shrug was exquisite, and Erick’s corduroy jacket and plaid scarf complimented it impeccably. Their wedding bands were stunning, too, and given that these rings hold a lot of significance to the newlyweds, we made sure to capture plenty of detailed images of them!
Something that Alana and Erick looked forward to most on their big day was being able to have their favorite people in the same place at the same time so close to the holidays. This is something truly remarkable and we were glad they were able to relish that connection in the moment. The feeling of togetherness and family rang throughout the entire Beaver Creek wedding from start to finish and kept smiles on our faces for days afterward.
We’d like to give a big thank you to all the other incredible vendors that helped make Alana and Erick’s wedding day so perfect! Saddleridge was a gorgeous venue, decorated by the couple and the amazing team at Alexan Events; Diamond Empire Band played the seriously groovy tunes; Alexia’s Bridal Boutique and The Wedding Seamstress are responsible for Alana’s gorgeous dress and veil; Liz at Beauty on Location Studio did an amazing job with the hair/makeup work; lastly, Christopher Timberlake for the gorgeously crafted rings!
Frequently Asked Questions About Beaver Creek Weddings
Where is Beaver Creek located?
Beaver Creek is located in the Vail Valley, approximately 130 miles west of Denver (roughly 2.5 hours’ drive). The resort sits at over 8,000 feet elevation in the Rocky Mountains, offering dramatically different scenery and weather than lower-elevation Denver venues.
What makes Beaver Creek a unique wedding venue?
Beaver Creek combines luxury resort amenities with authentic mountain scenery. The venue offers world-class accommodations for destination wedding guests, multiple ceremony and reception options, and a setting that feels genuinely special and exclusive.
What is the best time of year to host a wedding at Beaver Creek?
Late spring through early September offers the most reliable weather and accessible conditions. Summer months provide wildflower-filled landscapes, while early fall offers crisp mountain air and dramatic lighting without the risk of significant snow.
Are there altitude considerations for a Beaver Creek wedding?
Yes — Beaver Creek’s 8,000+ foot elevation can affect guests not acclimated to altitude. We recommend communicating with out-of-state guests in advance and planning adequate hydration and rest time, especially for active photography sessions in high altitude.
How should I choose a photographer experienced with mountain destination weddings?
Look for photographers with proven experience at high-altitude venues who understand mountain lighting, weather patterns, and logistics. Portfolio examples from Beaver Creek or similar mountain resorts demonstrate relevant expertise.
