Located just a handful of miles outside of Denver (and near Aurora!), Foxfield is a small town that offers an escape from the big city while still being near the heart of Colorado. This unique location makes Foxfield a great wedding destination. We were excited to join Kiki and Justin at their traditional Catholic wedding earlier this fall!

Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church
Our Lady of Loreto was founded in 1998 in Foxfield, CO. Today, it is home to around 2,500 families. The church describes its mission as, “Guided by the Holy Spirit, Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Parish is a Eucharistic community that seeks to live the Word of God, instill the legacy of faith, and proclaim the love of Christ through service to all.” The church offers a variety of services for its community beyond traditional Catholic weddings, such as funerals, men’s and women’s study groups, and confirmations.

A Traditional Catholic Wedding
The church was the perfect venue for Kiki and Justin’s wedding. The elegant decor complimented the bride and groom’s classy attire. But although the service was reverent, the wedding wasn’t totally solemn! After some gorgeous outdoor photos, Kiki, Justin, and their loved ones cut loose and celebrated their commitment to each other.
Looking for a venue for your upcoming event? Our Lady of Loreto is just one in a line of many fantastic venues we’ve traveled to in our photography journeys. We’ve written about some of them on this blog, such as the beautiful Lionsgate Chandelier Barns. Whether you’re looking for a traditional Catholic wedding like Kiki and Justin or something totally different, there’s a great chance we’ve written about it!
Shoutout to the vendors that made this possible: Footers Catering covered food, and DJ Guy did the music. Amanda from Roots and Mane did the bride’s hair, dress by The Perfect Dress of Sarasota, shoes by David’s Bridal, makeup was by Rosanne Harris, and rentals by Butler Rents. Thank you all for helping to make this day possible!

Foxfield: Colorado’s Hidden Gem Wedding Destination
Foxfield represents everything we love about Colorado outdoor weddings — authentic, scenic, and remote enough to feel like your own private world, while still being close to Denver’s energy. This small unincorporated community southeast of Denver offers wide-open spaces, genuine Colorado character, and some of the most beautiful natural light you’ll find anywhere.
The appeal of Foxfield for photographers is the expansive landscape combined with genuine Colorado authenticity. Unlike some more developed venues, Foxfield keeps that raw, beautiful mountain-valley feel. You’ve got endless blue sky, rolling terrain, native grasses, and the distant sight of the Rockies. The light here is exceptional — clear, clean, and unobstructed, making for absolutely stunning golden hour portraits and ceremony lighting.
Photographically, Foxfield works beautifully for couples who want to embrace Colorado’s outdoor character without feeling overly commercialized. The space is big enough for creative composition, intimate enough to feel personal, and dramatic enough to create striking images without needing heavy processing. It’s Colorado wedding photography at its finest.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best Colorado outdoor wedding venues?
Foxfield, various mountain ranches, Denver-area gardens, and historic estates all offer beautiful outdoor options. Each brings different character — Foxfield offers that classic Colorado ranch feel, mountain venues provide dramatic backdrops, gardens offer cultivated beauty. The best choice depends on your style and what you want to communicate about yourselves.
What time of year is ideal for outdoor Colorado weddings?
Late spring (May-June) and early fall (September-October) are ideal. You’ll have clear skies, comfortable temperatures, beautiful light, and reliable weather patterns. July-August can be hot and prone to afternoon thunderstorms. Winter is possible but requires more planning.
What happens if weather changes during an outdoor Colorado wedding?
Have a backup plan with your venue (tent, barn, or indoor space). Colorado weather can shift quickly, so flexibility is key. We always scout locations beforehand and plan contingencies. Communication between you, your venue, and your photographer ensures everyone knows what to do if plans need to adapt.
What are the best lighting tips for outdoor Colorado wedding photography?
Colorado’s high altitude and clear skies mean intense light and strong shadows. We often schedule ceremonies for late afternoon to use that incredible golden hour light. Overcast days work beautifully too — soft, even light that’s incredibly flattering. We always position you strategically to use natural features and avoid harsh shadows.
How do I choose the right Colorado outdoor photographer?
Look for someone with experience in outdoor venues, who understands Colorado light and weather patterns, and who has a portfolio of images you genuinely love. Ask to see images from the specific season and time of day you’re planning. A good outdoor photographer will be flexible, adaptable, and passionate about the unique beauty of Colorado.
