On a radiant summer day, we went with the Winters Family to South Platte Park and Carson Nature Center. We love a good family photo shoot – especially when it involves a doggo and some cute kiddos! This park is perfect especially on a summer day, and we loved exploring this new location with the Winters for a beautiful summer session! New Adventures As adventure junkies who are always hungry for new inspiration, we enjoyed getting to know this family and this new location close to home! South Platte Park and Carson Nature Center is an 880-acre open space along the South Platte River in Littleton, Colorado. This place has got it all: hiking trails, walking trails, and a reservoir for all kinds of water activities like kayaking, fishing, and paddle boarding! Over the (South Platte) river and through the woods we chased light with Mom, Dad, their three boys, and their adorable 8-year-old bulldog, Sasha Grace. The three Winters boys looked like dapper young men in pastel-colored shirts and patterned neckties. Mom and Dad had outfits to match, and the whole crew looked as happy as spring itself! Really, you can do wonderful, creative things with lighting. Check out what
If there’s one thing we do best it’s photography in Colorado. We have the tips, the tricks, and the secret spots that people absolutely love! So, when Gianna and Jason asked us to photograph their Lost Gulch Overlook sunrise engagement photos, we had to say yes! Especially since it was a sunrise engagement session (our favorite as of late)! Look Who’s Back – Back Again! Lost Gulch Overlook is one of our favorite locations because it offers numerous landscapes and absolutely breathtaking Colorado vistas for any occasion. Located on Flagstaff Mountain in beautiful Boulder, Colorado, it has mountainous terrain that stretches for miles, catches sunlight just right, and is easily accessible despite its high-up views. Not only are pets allowed, but the entry fee is as little as $5! We love this place so much we’ve even written a Lost Gulch Overlook guide to help you make the most of your session with us! The Whole Package! Not only did Gianna and Jason reap the benefits of this breathtaking location, but their outfits and, well, they themselves, were right on point! Beacause this altitudinous point showcases Colorado’s greens and blues, neutral tones always work well here. Jason’s white and tan combo made him
Question: what’s better than breathtaking Colorado engagement photos? Answer: an engagement session with one of our very own! Corianne, a beloved and past From the Hip studio manager, and her fiancée Kristopher invited us to photograph their engagement photos at Rocky Mountain National Park. Rocky Mountain Fever We love building relationships with every couple or family that we photograph, but it’s even more fun to capture the personalities and quirks of two good friends! These two artistic souls looked practically perfect against this national park’s mountainous vistas and shimmering lakes on a May day. Their love was more than obvious, and their appreciation of Colorado was clear, too! Rocky Mountain National Park’s 415 square miles include alpine adventures galore like trails, wildlife, starry skies, and peaceful camp spots. Its popularity among natives and tourists alike make it one of the most visited spots of our state. Located near Estes Park, Colorado, Rocky Mountain National Park is surely stunning at all times of the year with either walls of snow or swaths of colorful trees. Check out our other Rocky Mountain National Park engagement sessions with Rachel and Hunter and Amy and Matt. High on Love – and Altitude Corianne and

Not too long ago we went with Katy and Dan to Lost Gulch Overlook to capture their maternity photos against Colorado’s kaleidoscope sunset skies. Then, a few months later we got to take the camera from Katy’s cute bump to this couple’s bundle of joy. We absolutely loved capturing photos of their baby girl at their home. Katy & Dan are clearly thrilled and excited to be parents! Nursery Knickknacks Katy & Dan, like many parents with their swoon-worthy infants, chose to utilize their own home for the setting of their photo shoot. In-home photography sessions are comfortable, sweet, and something you can cherish on your wall or bedside table no matter where you live or travel. Check out 6 Tips for Parents for a Successful Newborn Photo Session for inspiration! Katy & Dan’s newborn daughter looked like an angel surrounded by white bedding and walls decorated with subtle charms. Her bedroom was home to countless mementos of the past and tidbits of her future. For example, her hospital band sat beside an image of her beautiful, pregnant mother at Lost Gulch. Tastes of wood and greenery from succulents brightened the space alongside this girl’s already large collection of books. What
“Pretty in pink” and “cute as a button” both have truth to them, and this couple’s newborn daughter, Mia, fit these phrases to a “T.” We felt so lucky to help these two parents photograph their in-home newborn session. The shoot was full of personal touches and comical costumes, and we truly loved every second! Pretty in Pink! In-home newborn sessions are bound to be heartwarming and special. As parents, you can pick your favorite spots, showcase adorable nurseries and bedrooms, and jump indoors and outdoors! Mia looked adorably smug no matter where she was – as long as she remained in her mom or dad’s arms! Check out many of our other in-home sessions and tips here! When we say “pretty in pink” we mean this little girl looked oh-so pretty in her pink blanket and floral headband. She rocked other colors like teal and purple as well. Altogether, Mia’s pinks and teals against Mom, Dad, and Grandma’s blues and pinks made the perfect summer color scheme for this photo shoot. The outside sunlight looked just as good as the white walls of the nursery, and Mia’s sweet eyes and yawns made her a natural in front of the
This love story is one of our favorites! Ben & Justin's wedding at their favorite brewery was a perfect opportunity for them to start their happily ever after.
Elegance in every twirl and tenderness in every kiss, Maureen and Andres’ engagement session at Clear Creek Trail was magic fit for a king and queen. These two looked stunning at this park in Golden, Colorado, and we couldn’t have asked for a better day with them. These lovebirds gleamed with joy at the prospect of their coming marriage, and we were happy to capture the moment! Clear Creek Class The Clear Creek trail is a favorite of ours, and one we return to time and time again. This October photo shoot gave us trees of bright yellow and orange. The creek’s water in the afternoon sun gave this couple regal halos and sparkling backdrops that we couldn’t pass up! And while the trail is full of walking trails and very close to the quaint town of Golden, the park is perfect for a photo shoot for any occasion, too. Check out Rachel and Justin’s maternity session at Clear Creek! Two Royal Sweethearts Maureen's long dress and elegant heels made her the most dazzling dancer in all the land. With Andres’ dapper suit and spunky red socks, this pair looked almost more perfect than the stunning Colorado backdrops we captured.
“Nothing can dim the light that comes from within,” Maya Angelo once said. Wow was she right—especially when it comes to Katy and Dan’s exciting news! Their party of two is becoming a party of three! We went back to Lost Gulch Overlook for this couple’s maternity session, and it was something extraordinary. Majestic Magic What’s the big deal about Lost Gulch Overlook anyway? For one thing, this setting is a familiar one for our From the Hip Photo fam (see our sunrise shoot at this location here)! Moreover, it never fails to take our breath away thanks to stunning views (and maybe a little altitude)? Located on Flagstaff Mountain near Boulder, Colorado, this location is accessible, popular and provides unbeatable landscapes and vistas. While the essence of this session was to capture Katy and Dan as happy, budding parents, this shoot was like something out of a movie or a music video. I mean seriously — Katy looked freaking majestic in her floor-length dress and tastefully braided hair. Dan’s tall build and wide smile made him the gentle giant who clearly loves and adores his wife and his upcoming little one! As photographers, we are so lucky to help couples
We were on cloud nine with Jordan and Daniel’s magical engagement photos at Alderfer/Three Sisters Park! We already love this location (as you can see from our previous post here), but this couple’s electric disposition made this session enchanting and totally out-of-this-world. The two are not only clear advocates of color and brilliance, but their affection for each other was quite possibly the most eye-catching of all. An Outdoor Outing Located in Evergreen, Colorado, this park hosted the most incredible pictures for Jordan and Daniel. With acres numbering nearly 770, this park has every vibe to offer. First, we explored the park’s trails and rocky plateaus so Jordan’s bright blue dress and Daniel’s dark-toned outfit would stand out. The park’s earthy greys and greens painted the perfect Colorado picture for this couple’s images! After the trails, we visited the park’s more rustic and western flares such as a wooden barn. Here, the couple melded like yin and yang in their black and white tones against beautiful wood. The wood even made the most ideal ring holder for Jordan's rock. While maintaining the Colorado feel, this country barn provided another rural perspective. Looking both happy and completely in love, the two
