Mile High Station: Denver’s Most Dramatic Industrial-Chic Wedding Venue
Mile High Station, located adjacent to Union Station in downtown Denver, is an architectural marvel that serves as the ultimate backdrop for dramatic, moody wedding photography. The venue’s soaring vaulted ceilings, exposed brick, and industrial bones create an inherently theatrical setting. For photographers, this venue is a gift — the architecture does much of the visual work for you, providing natural drama and professional-quality backdrops that photograph beautifully in both color and black-and-white.
What distinguishes Mile High Station is its uncompromising industrial authenticity combined with sophisticated event amenities. The vaulted ceilings create incredible vertical drama in photographs, while the exposed brick and architectural details provide textured, layered backgrounds. For themed weddings — like Christy and Danny’s Gothic celebration — the venue’s inherent moody aesthetic is the perfect collaborator. The venue feels like an urban warehouse transformed into a gallery, which is exactly what makes it so visually compelling for contemporary wedding photography.
It’s the night of Halloween and here at From the Hip Photo, we are spending our night the traditional way: eating lots of candy (of course) and reminiscing on one of our favorite weddings (of course). Now, this isn’t any ordinary wedding, oh no.

It is a wedding that turned a graveyard into a stunning backdrop for our spooktacular bride and groom. Who would ever think an ouija board and scary skulls would make the perfect centerpiece? Well, Christy and Danny sure did, which is why this Gothic themed wedding at Mile High Station located in Denver, Colorado is totally awesome inspiration for anyone seeking a Halloween, gothic, or spooky-yet-elegant wedding!

“Till death do us part–“
The traditional wedding vows exchanged by the married couple who intend to spend the remainder of their lives together, and for Christy and Danny, these words were only a mere reminder of their timeless love for each other.
With gothic styled flourishes, elegant centerpieces and a to-die-for venue, the masterminds behind the Denver Zombie Crawl, (who just so happened to be the bride and groom themselves) conjured up a wedding that would make even Tim Burton jealous.
However, Christy was no corpse bride. In fact, she glowed with absolute happiness standing next to her groom, making what would normally be a spooky graveyard into a romantic and intimate backdrop for the duo.

A True Monster Mash
As the day continued and the ceremony began, Christy, in her classic wedding gown, made her procession down the aisle. The moment Christy and Danny intertwined fingers, looked into each other eyes and exchanged touching vows, in the form of eulogies, was a moment no one could forget.
The reception was a monster mash– if you will. Each table was beautiful with a uniquely individual centerpiece. From old vintage books, dominoes, spirit boards, to tiny music boxes, each item represented the couple in one way or another. And to think the creativity would stop there… it didn’t. WWII-era love notes hung from the ceiling above the dance floor where Christy danced with her father who then handed his daughter off to his son-in-law for their first waltz as a married couple.

As the couple began their first dance, Itchy-O, a Denver-based percussion-centered electronic performance band, crash-surprised the couple’s first dance with a dizzying electric cacophony. Shortly after, gorgeous ballet dancers put on a performance for Christy, Danny, and their guests.
After dancing with their friends and family, Christy and Danny drove off into the sunset in a vintage hearse with a license plate that read “til death.”
We’d like to thank all the other incredible vendors that helped make Christy and Danny’s wedding perfect!
