If there’s one thing we know with absolute certainty, it’s that we LOVE our state. Colorado is a great place to take anything from wedding to family to fashion to newborn pictures. For this specific session, we were in Denver to snap some Union Station engagement pictures of Hillary and Justin, and boy were they the most darling pair!

Hillary wore an awesome full-length skirt with a bold, polka dot pattern paired with a high neck tank top. Justin looked equally as fabulous in a black suit with a white dress shirt. We spent some time in Denver’s Union Station, taking some chic shots in front of the terminal and then in front of the outside of the station! We loved how the setting, paired with their stylish outfits, provided a very modern feel!
The two love birds were very affectionate, so we focused on highlighting their obvious connection to one another! They weren’t shy when it came to pulling each other in close for a hug and a kiss. Justin even dared to dip and kiss Hillary in front of the station!
After shooting inside and outside the station, the sun dipped behind the Rocky Mountains and gave us lots of twinkling lights in the moonlight to play with! The two traded their outfits for a more relaxed look and we headed to a local pub! We love getting to photograph after dark to take advantage of the lights that create those fun sparkles. We even shot through a prismic reflection, which is one of our fun toys that we always keep in the bag!
A cold glass of beer is one unique way to show off your engagement ring and Hillary did it quite well! The couple was so much fun to work with, not to mention their chemistry made for so many fun candid shots. Aside from just looking at their Union Station engagement pictures, we know for certain that Hillary and Justin have a love that is everlasting!
Denver Union Station: An Iconic Engagement Photo Location
Denver Union Station is an absolute icon — one of the most recognizable and photogenic landmarks in Colorado. Built in 1881 and recently restored to its original grandeur, Union Station offers a rare combination of historic architectural beauty, modern amenities, and genuine Denver character that makes it ideal for engagement photography.
What makes Union Station so special for photographers is the incredible variety of backdrops within and around the building. The interior Great Hall is absolutely stunning — ornate ceiling details, classical symmetry, marble finishes, and those massive arched windows that flood the space with light. The exterior is equally dramatic, with its distinctive Romanesque architecture, the iconic clock tower, and the surrounding Lower Downtown context. You’ve got intimate interior moments, grand architectural drama, and vibrant urban energy all within a few hundred feet.
The location also benefits from Union Station’s central downtown position. We can incorporate surrounding LoDo streets, the Colorado Capitol in the distance, and other Denver landmarks into your portraits. It feels like your own personal photo studio set, but with authentic Denver history and character woven throughout.
Union Station Photography Spaces
The Great Hall: The interior centerpiece features soaring ceilings, ornate detailing, and beautiful natural light from the arched windows. This is the most dramatic interior space and works beautifully for formal, elegant portraits.
Exterior Plaza: The outdoor space in front of Union Station provides context and scale. You’ve got the iconic facade as a backdrop, the clock tower, and the surrounding urban environment.
LoDo Neighborhood: The historic streets surrounding Union Station offer cobblestone texture, vintage buildings, and authentic Denver character for more casual, lifestyle-focused portraits.
Indoor Corridors & Details: Beyond the Great Hall, Union Station has beautiful architectural details throughout — staircases, archways, and refined spaces that offer more intimate backdrops.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Denver Union Station and can we do engagement photos there?
Union Station is located at 1701 Wynkoop Street in Denver’s Lower Downtown (LoDo) neighborhood — it’s impossible to miss. Yes, engagement photos are absolutely allowed! We recommend booking your session in advance and being mindful of the public nature of the space, but it’s one of the most popular engagement photo locations in Denver.
Can we photograph inside Union Station’s Great Hall?
The Great Hall is publicly accessible and we can definitely photograph there. It’s a stunning space with incredible light. Be mindful of other visitors and peak travel times. Early morning sessions often provide quieter conditions and the most beautiful light.
Do we need permits to do engagement photos at Union Station?
For casual photography with just a few people, permits aren’t typically required. However, if you’re planning a larger session or want to use certain spaces exclusively, it’s worth checking with Union Station directly about their photography policies and any permit requirements.
What’s the best time of day to photograph at Union Station?
Early morning (8-10 AM) is ideal for interior Great Hall shots because you get beautiful light through the windows with fewer crowds. Late afternoon golden hour works beautifully for exterior and LoDo street portraits. Avoid peak midday hours if you want quieter spaces.
How do we combine indoor and outdoor Union Station elements in our engagement photos?
We typically flow between spaces — starting in the Great Hall for formal, elegant portraits, then moving outdoors for context and the iconic facade, then exploring the surrounding LoDo neighborhood for lifestyle and authentic Denver character. This gives you variety across the session while keeping everything cohesive.
