Denver Fashion Weekend is a favored affair amongst local fashionistas, featuring five fantastic nights of fashion-forward festivity! 303 Magazine‘s biannual event seeks to showcase the best and the brightest when it comes to Colorado’s creative community. This spring, Colorado’s largest fashion show was held April 6th-11th at City Hall Amphitheater.
Designs by brands like Marks Lloyds Furs, Lions in Four, Kouture, Velvet Wolf, Soignee, Royal, ILY ILEY, Femme Fatale Intimates, and Georgine set the tone for night three. We loved snagging some photos of the chic chaos that was backstage as well as the rockin’ runway. From the Hip Photo and two of our fabulous interns, Emily and Kenna, got backstage passes to all the excitement!
Emily, a graphic design and marketing guru, was placed in charge of setting up a seamless segment for her other employer, Kouture! This show was the upscale consignment store’s debut, so the pressure was on. Emily went to work developing a theme, choosing hair and makeup looks, selecting music, and finding background images. She scouted models, amassed their measurements, and matched apparel to make sure each look was nothing short of perfection. High fives to Emily, because every model and every outfit, down to the final accessory, looked amazing!
Kenna, our intern and resident model, spent Denver Fashion Weekend strutting her stuff. Her entire weekend consisted of being poked and prodded by makeup brushes and curling irons in the cramped backstage area. Amongst the mass of gabbing hairstylists and chatty makeup artists, one of the most fascinating moments for her was an exchange with another model. While drinking water, Kenna heard a disbelieving, “You like water!?” Apparently water is not a fondness as common as you’d think. The shocked model couldn’t stand H2O and often traded it for Gatorade!
The show itself is a blur for runway models and fashion boutiques. Hours of preparation go into a perfect look showcased for all of 30 seconds. Those 30 seconds, however, are insanely nerve-wracking! Imagine walking down a runway in a pair of heels that may or may not fit, dressed in designs you probably don’t wear on the street, with each and every audience eye on you. The feeling of accomplishment afterward, however, makes it absolutely worth it!
Denver Fashion Weekend Spring 2016 was yet another smashing success! With so many beautiful designs, bold hair and makeup looks, and creative local folks, amazing photos were in no short supply. We can’t wait for next year!
