Día de los Muertos is one of our favorite holidays. So what do we do as we await for its once a year arrival? Reminisce on one of our favorite styled shoots, the Day of the Dead shoot, to be specific! This Day of the Dead Styled wedding was so much fun and full of vibrant colors, plus it just happened to be in our beloved Hangar at the Stanley Marketplace!

A Dapper Day of the Dead
Día de los Muertos or, Day of the Dead, is a Mexican multi-day holiday that focuses on the gathering of friends and family to pray for and remember loved ones who have died, and help support their spiritual journey. Throughout the festivities, you will notice vibrant colors in the flowers and decorations that make up the various ofrendas (altars). Metaphorically and symbolically, the colors mirror the mystical underpinnings of the Dia de los Muertos celebration. The contrasts between dark and light with the addition of warm earthy tones make up the complex palette of colors associated with the Mexican Celebration.
Our inspiration you might ask? The incredible colors of this holiday, of course! And what worked out even better was our location. The Hangar offers a grungy, industrial backdrop. Even the walls and the garage doors have pops of bright reds and yellows. Perfect, right? Luckily for us, Comida, a restaurant in the Stanley, has a mural of a dazzling skull, so of course, we put our models in the foreground and got some of the most deadly, romantic shots possible!

A Backstory
The location was perfect for the shoot, but let’s be real…the meaning behind the celebration itself made for an awesome styled wedding. The pure essence of gathering to celebrate with loved ones who have passed and the sharing the vows of “till death do us part,” during a wedding—the two go hand in hand so it was destined for this styled wedding to happen.
Models Taylor and Nick looked extremely bold and radiant in their gown and tux. Taylor’s makeup was to-die-for. Her calavera (sugar skull) inspired makeup was absolutely fitting for this wedding. After all, calavera, traditionally created with cane sugar, are decorating items used throughout the Day of the Dead holiday.
If anyone ever said pictures can’t be taken in front of a yellow wall… then they are wrong! Taylor and Nick slayed that yellow wall. Taylor’s gorgeous red dress with hints of a deep purple popped in front of the accent wall. The juniper greens, magentas, oranges, and marigolds of Taylor’s bouquet and Nick’s boutonnière paired brilliantly with the yellow wall, red dress, and black tux.

A Stanley Family Affair
